However, considering that Indonesia consists of more rural areas than urban areas, since 2017 the Indonesian government launching a program to developing more tourist villages. One of the villages that received guidance from STP Trisakti is Sakerta Timur (East Sakerta) village in Darma sub-district, Kuningan Regency, West Java, Indonesia. Sakerta Timur has been set to become one of the pioneer tourism villages among other villages in Kuningan regency. 54 percent fo total workers in tourism industry are women. Traditional gender roles, assign women the main responsibilities for raising children and doing household work, but most of the women in Sakerta Timur village help the husband’s role in improving the household economy. The women have the ability to process local foodstuffs for sale. As part of human resources, women’s involvement is very important, they are very potential to support the development of their village to become a rural tourism destination through food home industry. Most home industries in Sakerta Timur village are managed by women which is half of the population. The home industries products have already become the source of village’s income but there is still a lack of support from the village government due to physical development priority. Using in-depth interviews, observation, and other supplemental evidence, this study was to analyze the potential and how to empower women in Sakerta Timur village to support their village to become rural tourism destination through home industry.
