Abstract

ABSTRACT Ecotourism has become more popular in the past recent years due to the transition of traveler’s interest from urban tourism to rural tourism. Most people are looking for nature to relieve their stresses. The impact of this transition is the emerged of many rural tourism destinations. The ecotourism industry depends on local resident involvement, including the women. As part of human resources, women involvement are very important to help developing their village to become a rural tourism destination. Home industry and homestay in Sakerta Timur village, Kuningan are mostly managed by women which is half of the population. They are very potential to support the development of their village to become rural tourism destination through home industry and homestay but there is still lack of support from the village government due to physical development priority. Using in-depth interviews, observation and other supplemental evidence, this study was to analyzed the potential and how to empower women in Sakerta Timur village in order to support their village to become rural tourism destination through home industry and homestay, since these two industries have already been started. The findings from this paper will help other village governments how to develop their village to become rural tourism destination by empowerment women who managed home industry and homestay.
