Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to obtain an understanding of the tourist perceptions of planning and design sustainable tourism in puncak. In this paper, the sample was 300 respondents from the tourists who experienced at least one time of visiting Puncak. The finding of this study firstly, the age of respondent between 25 until 44 years old with 102 respondents (34.0%), suggestion is to promote tourism sustainability for young generation. Secondly, according the income of respondent < 3.000.000 IDR with 90 respondents (30.0%), the income of respondent 3.000.000 IDR–5.000.000 IDR with 108 respondents (36.5%), suggestion is to maintain the price is not higher than other tourist destinations. Thirdly, according experienced visiting Puncak, more than four time experience of respondent visiting Puncak with 140 respondents (46.7%), suggestion is to maintain products, services and innovate by implementing tourism sustainability businesses. Fourthly, pillars of social development 146 respondents (48.67%) strongly disagree, disagree and neutral. Suggestion is making cultural preservation and development such as festival, performances and cultural tourism attractions in the Puncak area. Fifthly, environmental development pillar 110 respondents (36.67%) strongly disagree, disagree and neutral. Suggestion is making conservation and development towards environmental friendliness in maintaining sustainability, not over-exploitation of natural resources and maintenance of other ecosystem functions such as reforestation, waste management system and quality than quantity with limitation for tourist visits in the Puncak area. Sixthly, pillars of economic development 103 respondents (34.33%) strongly disagree, disagree and neutral. Suggestion is making collaboration with MSMEs owned by the local community are given a place in conjunctions with large tourism businesses located in the puncak area. Seventhly, pillars of legal development and governance 76 respondents (25.33%) strongly disagree, disagree and neutral. Suggestion is making collaboration and synergy to create a tourism strategy for the development at the macro level in the Puncak area.
